Southeast Portland Tool Library Seeking Volunteers

Southeast Portland Tool Library (SEPTL) is looking for friendly folks to fill some new volunteer opportunities at the tool library.

He also says tool knowledge is not required to volunteer.

The SEPTL tool library is an all-volunteer tool checkout which is free, similar to checking out books at a conventional library. More information is available on the website at septl.org.

September 1950 ‘Ardenwald News’

September 1950 ‘Ardenwald News’

At the regular neighborhood meeting on February 22nd, the Neighborhood Association received a good copy of the September 1950 “Ardenwald News” generously donated by Ardenwald resident Sue Smith.

The 65-year old 12-page newsletter features neighborhood news, events, announcements, tips, recipes, and advertisements. The main feature story in the newsletter was about civil defense and atomic bombs, at a time when World War II wrapped up.

The Neighborhood Association will donate the historical newsletter to the Milwaukie Historic Society to be stored or displayed at the Milwaukie Museum.

Sellwood Bridge Events This Weekend

Mark your calendars. The old Sellwood Bridge will be closed to traffic, beginning this Thursday, February 25th at 7 PM. From 7:30 to 8:30 PM, the public is invited to bring flashlights, electric candles or phone lights and walk across the old bridge for a final farewell ceremony marking the old bridge’s 90 years spanning the Willamette. Participants are asked to gather at SE Grand and Spokane no earlier than 7 PM.

Though the bridge will be closed to traffic until Tuesday, March 1st, there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the new bridge on Saturday, February 27th 12-4 PM. Parking is very limited in the neighborhood, so visitors are encouraged to walk or bike to the party, which will feature a parade, food carts, entertainment and “a few surprises.”

Learn more about what’s happening at the project’s website.
