Aquatic Macroinvertebrate Monitoring – Saturday September 26th, 2009, 9am – 1pm
Tideman Johnson Park, SE 37th & Tenino, (map it) – meet on the boardwalk
We are partnering with the Xerces Society to monitor aquatic macroinvertebrates — an important meausure of stream health in Johnson Creek. The data we collect will feed into larger efforts to monitor aquatic macroinvertebrates throughout the Johnson Creek Watershed. All volunteers will learn how to collect water samples and identify macroinvertebrate species and will receive copies of the Xerces Society field guides A Guide to Pacific Northwest Macroinvertebrate Monitoring & Identification and Freshwater Mussels of the Pacific Northwest. More information is in the attached flier (pdf)
We had a really successful Johnson Creek Cleanup on August 29th.
Over 4600 pounds of garbage was pulled from Johnson Creek, the Springwater Corridor and Tideman Johnson Park. Many thanks to the Overland Park Coalition for inlcuding us in this great event.
About Tideman Johnson Park
Tideman Johnson Park is a treasured natural area in southeast Portland. It’s a wildlife area that’s home to coyotes, beavers, dozens of varieties of birds and waterfowls (including the occasional bald eagles), and the site of a comprehensive plan to recover salmon and steelhead runs. The park is frequented by neighbors as well as by walkers and cyclists passing through on the Springwater Corridor Trail. Recent work in the park has reconstructed the original creek bed, created new riparian habitat, restored the natural floodplain, and reestablished native plants.
Through a Community Watershed Stewardship grant, the Ardenwald Johnson Creek Neighborhood is continuing the ongoing restoration of Tideman Johnson Park. Please join us!
