Police dog makes appearance at potluck

Ardenwald-Johnson Creek Neighborhood Association’s potluck on Dec. 10th had a pretty good turnout. Ham, potatoes, stuffing, wine, and other goodies were served. One special guest stopped by for a visit: Yago.

Yago is Milwaukie Police Department’s police dog. He recently joined the force to replace Jag, who died last year from cancer.

Yago’s duty at the party included receiving hugs from and giving licks to faces of the attendees.

December Tideman Johnson work party cancelled and rescheduled for January

The Tideman Johnson Park work party for Saturday, December 7, 2013, has been cancelled due to frigid weather.

The weather on planting day  is calling for high temperatures near freezing.

“I know we’re all pretty tough, but our little plants are sensitive and don’t love going into the frozen ground,” said Marianne Colgrove of Friends of Tideman Johnson Park.

Colgrove said the December work party has been rescheduled to Saturday, January 4, 2014, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Tideman Johnson Park.

Tideman Johnson work party this Saturday

This event has been cancelled for Dec. 7th and rescheduled for Saturday, January 4, 2013.

From Marianne Colgrove:

Hey all Friends of Tideman Johnson,

This Saturday we’re going to plant some native plants in our oak grove!

Yes, we have a grove of native Oregon White Oak (aka Garry Oak, aka Quercus garryana). It’s actually one very large oak tree plus a bunch of small ones we planted a few years ago. But, hey – we are well on our way to a grove of native oaks.

We will have about 200 natives to plant – not so very many! A delightful mix of thimbleberry, swamp rose, snowberry, choke cherry, pearly everlasting, and fireweed (my favorite).

I hear it might be cold but, that’s OK! You may have heard the saying “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes.” No? Well, you’ve heard it now. Dress warm, you’ll be fine. I’ve attached a picture of our planting crew, in the actual oak grove, from December 2007. If I recall, we did have a few snowflakes that day, but look how happy we are! Easy peasy.

So, I hope you can join us for the last Tideman Johnson event of 2013
