Prescription drug turn-in event Saturday, Apr. 28

From the Milwaukie Police Department:

Milwaukie Police Cadets, Providence Milwaukie Hospital, and PSAC (Public Safety Advisory Committee) are hosting the third annual Prescription Drug Drop-Off Day on Saturday, April 30 at the Public Safety Building, located at 3200 S.E. Harrison Street, in Milwaukie. This initiative coincides with the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, scheduled nationwide by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Milwaukie Police Cadets will be available in the parking lot of the police department to receive the public’s unwanted prescription medications.

The ‘drive-through’ service is available to anyone wanting to properly dispose of unneeded or expired prescription medications. Environmentally safe methods of disposal will be used, thus preventing the medications from leeching into rivers, streams, groundwater and other sensitive areas. (People are discouraged from dumping medications down the toilet, water drains, or in the garbage because many drug compounds release toxins known to be hazardous to the environment.)

Proper disposal of prescription medications also prevents teenagers and others from unlawfully obtaining and using these prescription drugs.

This free service will be available on Saturday, April 28, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The Public Safety Building is located on the corner of S.E. Harrison Street and S.E. 32nd Avenue in Milwaukie.
