Update from the CAC meeting, Jan. 21, 2010

The Milwaukie Portland Light Rail Citizens Advisory Committee meeting discussed a couple topics of importance to the AJC neighborhood notably a new traffic analysis (see links below). I expressed our concerns about the traffic signal changes as outlined in our letter. Neighborhood resident Linda Hattlelid made a long and informative speech that will go in the meeting minutes.

The neighborhood letter was received well but I had no questions about it and I handed out a hard copy to those who did not receive the electronic copy. Those who care about the issue will need to follow up with their elected officials to have any impact on this issue. Also read the note from Police Chief Jordan at the end of this report.

Johnson Creek Blvd. Traffic Calming from Carlotta Collette

Dear Friends and Neighbors

How many times have you said: “I wish we could just put up a toll booth on Johnson Creek Boulevard and charge everyone cutting through our neighborhood”?

Living on the boulevard, I’ve said it a lot and heard it said often as well.

Well here’s the deal: we could actually get a pilot tolling project on the boulevard if we’re interested. We will need to request it and write the conditions under which we’d accept it, but we could be the first community in the region to toll people cutting through our neighborhood if we are interested.

Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 4:34 PM PT

Dec. 29, 2009, 4:33 p.m. — Milwaukie Public Works Department says crews are heading out to plow the streets.  In Ardenwald, S.E. 32nd Ave., S.E. Johnson Creek Blvd., and S.E. 42nd Ave. are snowplow routes.  If you have a car parked on the streets designated a snowplow route, you may want to move it off the street to prevent damages from the snow plowing.  Residential side streets are not plowed. See Snowplow Routes (Milwaukie).

The Neighborhood Association delivered the presents donated by local residents and businesses  to  two anonymous Ardenwald-Johnson Creek NDA Christmas Adopt-a-Family families over the weekend.

Lisa Gunion-Rinker said that both families “were so touched by your thoughtfulness and generosity that they started crying.”

Matt Rinker, Jeff Davis and Chris Davis helped deliver the presents, including a queen-sized mattress and box spring, in the pouring rain.

Last year the Neighborhood Association had to deliver the presents in a foot and a half of snow.
