Ongoing Investigation into Precision Castparts for Toxic Spill in Johnson Creek

Many of you have probably heard of the chemical spill in late September, which caused a stretch of Johnson Creek in Tideman Johnson Park to become foamy, with many dead and dying fish, frogs, salamanders, crayfish, etc. (Here’s the event as reported by the Johnson Creek Watershed Council at the time.)

Since then, it’s been discovered that the spill was a mix of chemicals (primarily sodium hydroxide) from Precision Castparts. Details have come out in these stories:

Health officials say there is no ongoing risk to the public. While Precision Castparts will likely face penalties for the allegedly accidental spill (into the stormwater system, and from there into the creek), Oregon DEQ’s investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
