Bike lanes could be added to SE Harrison St.

Now that S.E. Harrison St. reconstruction between S.E. 32nd Ave. and S.E. 42nd Ave is complete, the City of Milwaukie is planning on implementing the bike lanesĀ  for this stretch.

This portion of S.E. Harrison St. is nearly 40 feet wide, which means it can accommodate two 12-foot travel lanes and two 6-foot bike lanes. That means on-street parking would be eliminated. The route is also a primary east-west route connecting Ore. 224 and S.E. King Rd via S.E. 42nd Ave.

An another option is having one bike lane on one side and parking on another side (similar to S.E. Monroe St.)

The City wants to know from residents and business owners in the area about what impact this would have on residential or businesses.

The City also says depending on the resident and business owners in the area, the bike lanes could be striped next spring.

There will be a meeting at the Hector Campbell Neighborhood Association on Monday, October 8, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. in the Public Safety Building (3200 S.E. Harrison St. in Milwaukie) where city staff will discuss the proposal.

The portion of S.E. Harrison St. west of S.E. 37th Ave. is in the Ardenwald-Johnson Creek Neighborhood boundary.
