What is the NDA Friday Update? This update is meant to provide timely information one time per week to community leaders like you who can then share this information with fellow board members and neighbors. The updates are also a good place to share information with other NDA leaders, so please feel free to submit information to include on future Friday Updates.  ?

While meeting in-person does have many benefits that are not possible online, this is a great time to join your NDA meeting or others from the comfort of your home so give it a try if you haven’t already.

Summer Programs:

Watch for weekly online activities – including scavenger hunts you can do at home, building challenges, and art projects.  Teens will have online challenges, as well, with submissions posted on our social media and eligible for prize drawings.

Summer Reading begins!

June 1 marks the start of the Summer Reading Program at the Milwaukie Ledding Library! All ages can participate, from birth to adults. 

This summer, we’re inviting everyone to track your reading however you’d like and turn in your reading log you for prizes in July or August.  You may download a reading log from the library’s website, create your own unique reading challenge, or ask us to mail one to you.  Families are welcome to share reading logs. Pre-readers can track the days that someone sings or reads with them.  All ages can join in the fun and receive a prize!

Milwaukie Ledding Library Services Update (June 1):

The Ledding Library has started curbside pick-up for items on the holds shelves before we closed in March. After these have all been picked up, we will be scheduling appointments for our patrons to pick up any holds on materials in our collection.

Our phone line (503-786-7580) is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Friday. If you would like to place a new hold or ask a reference question, please call us. New hold requests can also be made through your LINCC account at www.lincc.org.

The City does not have a date at this time for reopening the facility, but we will post updates on our website and Facebook account. Stayed tuned!

To support business as Clackamas County moves through the phases of reopening, the city is allowing businesses to expand space for seating and sales and allow more room for social distancing.   

The Temporary Use Permit will allow businesses to add seating to public parking stalls and to private parking lots through September 30, 2020.

  • Virtual Fitness Classes Offered by NCPRD Begin in June – Register and participate in free workshops to sample the classes and get 10% off the full class.
  • The North Clackamas Parks & Recreation District (NCPRD) is now offering select fitness classes through Zoom! The goal is to provide residents with opportunities to exercise with an instructor and experience the camaraderie of a fitness class virtually, while allowing for social distancing and keeping people safe during COVID-19.  
    • Free workshops are being held so residents can sample all of the classes before signing up. Those who take a free workshop get 10% off the class and seniors get an additional 25% off. 
  • Virtual Golden Anniversary Event June 19 at 11 a.m. – Have you and your partner been together for 50 years or longer? Renew your vows and celebrate your dedication. Register by June 10.

  • TriMet Holds Virtual Open Houses June 9, 10, & 11 – Learn about their plans to preserve service, jobs and safety in the coming year

TriMet looks to the future: transit during the pandemic and beyond

Virtual open houses give public opportunity to learn about revised budget, service, safety and security priorities for fiscal year 2021 starting July 1, 2020

TriMet is developing plans for our future. While the COVID-19 pandemic brings many uncertainties, TriMet will continue to provide a service that is safe, reliable and equitable. We are hosting three virtual open house events to share what we want riders to know as they start returning to transit and our plans for preserving service, jobs and safety in the coming year. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT/ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT/HOUSING

Business Outreach

  • The City was awarded $35,000 from the State of Oregon Emergency Business Assistance Matching Fund. Funds will be used for a second round of grants for the Milwaukie Business Relief Fund.   
  • Staff contacted all retail businesses to provide reopening guidance and emailed all registered businesses with OHA guidance and provided information for business promotion and PPE resources through Clackamas County and Business Oregon.

Sparrow Property

  • Staff have finalized the grant from the state and are developing a revised timeline and engagement plan for the project given delay due to COVID 19 outbreak. The grant agreement with Business Oregon will provide $60,000 technical assistance on a reimbursement basis.

NHA Renter Assistance

  • Staff drafted a Memorandum of Understanding to transfer $25,000 to Northwest Housing Alternatives, Inc for the purpose of rental assistance. These funds are expected to transfer in July after the new budget is adopted.

PLANNING

Comprehensive Plan Update

  • The City Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing June 2, 2020 to consider the Planning Commission’s March 10 recommendation for adoption of the Comprehensive Plan.  An updated draft of the plan, incorporating the Planning Commission’s proposed changes, was uploaded to the project website on April 9.

Comprehensive Plan Implementation

  • The first meeting of the Comprehensive Plan Implementation Committee (CPIC) is scheduled for June 4.  The intent of the meeting is to serve as a project kick-off and will include an introduction to the project and an update on the consultant selection process. The meeting will be conducted as a virtual meeting.

Planning Commission

  • On May 26, the Planning Commission reopened a public hearing that had been continued from April 28.   The Planning Commission took additional testimony, deliberated, and approved a 6-lot subdivision on Railroad Ave (S-2018-001) to.
  • VR-2019-013 – A public hearing is scheduled for June 23, 2020 to review the land use application for a proposed four-story mixed-use building located at 9391 SE 32nd Ave.  Referrals have been sent; the 20-day public hearing notice will go out on June 3.

Design Landmarks Commission

  • Staff will be discussing next steps on downtown design review process with the DLC at their June 1 meeting, to be held virtually using Zoom.

Land Use/Development Review (Only land use applications requiring public notice are listed.)

  • VR-2020-002 – An application for a Type II variance to allow a 6-ft side yard setback rather than the minimum 10-ft setback was submitted for the property located at 3040 SE Malcolm St.  Comments are due on June 2.
