Oct 23: Voice Your Opinion on Proposed Changes to SE 29th Ave. Greenway

Two key changes to 29th Avenue are being considered by the City of Milwaukie and its
volunteer Public Safety Advisory Committee:

  • New stop signs at each of 29th ’s cross-streets, but not on 29th itself.
  • Flexible delineators at the northeast and southwest corners of each intersection along 29th. (This is because stop signs placed on the east-west cross-streets of 29th create the risk of motor vehicles speeding more freely north-south on 29th.)

This diagram indicates the placement of the proposed stop signs (blue stop signs) and flexible delineators (dots):

And here’s a mockup of the appearance and placement of the delineators:

Are the 29th Ave. residents being consulted?

The Public Safety Advisory Committee approved the review of this proposal at its September 25, 2025, meeting. A key aspect of the review is to poll those living along 29th as to their support, opposition, or indifference to the placing of flexible delineators at the intersections of 29th Avenue.

Those living on 29th Avenue and others would still be able to drive around the delineators but would have to negotiate steering their vehicles around the delineators at the cross-streets. (Alternatively, those driving to and from their homes on 29th could minimize their steering around the delineators by driving to the nearest cross-street with diverters located away from them, turning left towards 32nd Avenue when departing home and using the other nearest cross-street and turning left onto 29th on the way home.)
