This Saturday (7/4): Block Party Fundraiser for AJC-based Nonprofit, Pursuit for PURA

Ever attended a block party and found yourself thinking: If only this block party had a purpose? Well, you’re in luck, because just such a block party is coming to the neighborhood!

  • When: Saturday, July 4, 3:00pm – 7:00pm
  • Where: SE 36th Ave., between King and Harrison (map it)

So what’s the party’s purpose, you ask? It’s an opportunity to learn about PURA Syndrome (a rare genetic condition) and — if you have the means and the inclination — to donate to Pursuit for PURA, AJC’s own nonprofit dedicated to spreading awareness and funding research into this little-known but highly debilitating condition. Pursuit for PURA’s founder (our neighbor McKenzie), whose son Hayden has a PURA Syndrome diagnosis, is also throwing this block party as a celebration of Hayden’s 2nd birthday!

Please note: the family is not asking for birthday gifts. Just bring yourselves! Attendance is free, so swing by for a Zenner’s hot dog and a Pfriem beer (and/or a non-alcoholic bevvie), hang with your neighbors, and learn about PURA Syndrome. Donations to the cause are of course welcome, but not obligatory. And if you’re a July 4th fireworks person, not to worry: the party wraps up at 7pm — well before the fireworks kick off at nightfall!

If you can’t make it in person, you can still support Pursuit for PURA by donating online here and/or purchasing some birthday swag here.
