32nd Ave. traffic island plants removed

32nd Ave. Island at SE Meeks St.

Drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians on SE 32nd Ave. may notice the traffic island near SE Meeks St. is looking a little bare.

The City of Milwaukie contacted Ardenwald Neighborhood Association and asked if the plants can be removed. The Neighborhood Association approved removing the plants and have it replaced with lower growing plants.

The former plants grew too large and required extensive maintenance, which was difficult to maintain in the middle of the busy 32nd Ave. traffic.

Milwaukie Public Works removed the plants at the same time the “keep right” sign was replaced when it was ran over last week.

As for the Ardenwald sign,  the Neighborhood Association decided on not replacing the sign in the island after it was struck four times in the past.
